Two intrepid Apleona Workspace colleagues have recently completed a gruelling charity challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest freestanding mountain in the world!
Philip Eastlake, Business development Manager, and Lisa Mackie, Assistant Commercial Manager, both of whom are based at Apleona Workspace’s Hamilton office, climbed over 19,000ft in six days, raising almost £1900 in the process.
Their amazing efforts helped to raise funds for Share Tanzania, a small, independent charity based in Uchira, northern Tanzania, only a few miles from the boundary of Kilimanjaro National Park.
Share Tanzania has the goal of alleviating poverty and improving the lives of vulnerable children living in the area through the simple action of sharing resources, love and ideas. As of the time of writing, the charity provides full time care for over 100 special needs children, and over 40 able bodied children, some of whom live with HIV and trauma.
In 2012, Lisa spent some time in Uchira with the charity, helping to teach English, plant trees and educate the locals about sustainable farming. She said: “As a small, independent charity, Share Tanzania is almost completely dependent on donations and regular public sponsors. Because of this, we were delighted to help raise some money to help with the day-to-day running costs and its many projects that are a lifeline for local children.
“We originally had a target of raising £1200 for Share Tanzania but we eventually raised a fantastic amount of almost £1900, which was amazing. Every penny really does make a difference so we would like to pass on our thanks to everyone who kindly donated to this fantastic cause.”
